Firstly, what is the meaning of nanomaterials?

The "nanomaterials" should meet the following two conditions:

1)   the particle size of the material is less than 100nm;

2)   the material has new characteristics compared to before.

Secondly, Let’s learn about the application of nanotechnology in coatings.

The perfect application of nanotechnology in coating products mainly includes dozens of varieties such as interior walls, exterior walls, antibacterial latex paints, and primers. Product performance has been greatly improved: nano specific amphiphobicity, non-stick water, non-stick oil, washable up to tens of thousands of times; super adhesion and elasticity, no hollowing, no peeling, no cracking; nanomaterials ultraviolet rays The shielding function greatly improves the aging resistance, does not fade for a long time, and has a service life of more than ten years; the unique photocatalytic effect and self-cleaning function can prevent mildew and sterilize and purify the air.

According to the kinds of coatings:

1. Exterior wall paint

If the user needs to improve the anti-aging, scrubbing and anti-fouling properties of the coating, it is recommended to use it alone or in combination with the medium and high-grade coatings. The amount of the former is 1-5%, the amount of the latter is 0.5-3% for nano titanium oxide, and 0.5-2% for nano silicon. For medium and low-grade coatings, the amount of nanomaterials is 1-2%, mainly using nano oxidation. Silicon, no or less use of nano titanium oxide. Generally speaking, the amount of nanomaterials should be as high as possible within the cost allowable range. Under the circumstance of strict cost control, it is recommended that customers determine the optimal amount of nanomaterials through experiments to make it cost-effective.

2.Interior wall paint

If the user has high requirements for indoor air quality, nano titanium oxide or nano negative ion powder can be used to purify the air, and nano antibacterial materials or nano zinc oxide can be used to improve the antibacterial and antifungal properties. Users can improve the leveling, anti-fouling performance and thickening performance of coatings by combining nano titanium oxide and nano silicon oxide. The recommended dosage (1-3%) can be used alone or in combination. Negative ions and anatase are used. Type nano titanium oxide can improve the ability of paint to purify the air.

3. Special paint
① Antistatic coating, used in places with high antistatic requirements such as computer rooms;
②Wear-resistant coating, the use of nano zirconium oxide and nano cobalt oxide can significantly improve the hardness and wear resistance of the coating;
③ Corrosion-resistant coatings, nano silicon oxide, nano titanium oxide, nano zinc oxide alone or in combination can improve the corrosion resistance of coatings, especially seawater corrosion resistance;
④For fire-retardant coatings, if there is a requirement for the fire-resistant performance of the coating, it is recommended to use nano magnesium oxide, and the addition amount is 0.5-5%.

Fourthly, about suggested dispersion method of nanomaterials in coatings.
In the low-speed stirring state, first pour a certain amount of nanomaterials into deionized water slowly according to the required amount, and add an appropriate dispersant, and stir while adding the materials. After all the materials are added, emulsification or dispersion at high speed for half an hour , and then mixed with the coating system, stirring at medium speed for a period of time. Customers can also carry out their own dispersion process.
