Free Diaper Rash Ointment

A diaper rash can be a real problem for your newborn baby. It is usually caused by irritation from the diaper that may fit too tight or by other irritants such as soaps, perfumed wipes, plastic pants or excessive moisture.
It is important that you frequently check your baby’s diaper for urine and stool. (Check it out…sniffing doesn’t always work!).

Prevention and treatment:
Keep diaper area clean and dry
Check diapers frequently. Your baby’s skin is very sensitive and becomes irritated quickly with moisture from urine and stool.

Clean your baby’s bottom after each diaper change and allow the area to dry completely before putting on another diaper.
Use a diaper rash ointment with zinc oxide or petrolatum to protect your baby’s skin from further irritation.
If the rash doesn’t get better after treating it for a week, consult your doctor.

A very good ointment to use is called : Flanders Buttocks Ointment. This product does not require a prescription, although it is commonly stored behind the pharmacist’s counter. So ask your pharmacist if they carry it.
