Then decrease to one bottle a day, given in your arms at bedtime, as you read him a book. The next day offer the bottle with only water in it. He may refuse it. The next evening sit together at the kitchen table having milk in a cup or eating yogurt with a spoon; read him a bedtime story, and do not give a bottle.
During this transition time, play games with your son, go outdoors as often as you can, and cuddle together reading books several times a day. Take juice packs or a plastic thermos with you on walks and excursions, so your son understands that straws and cups will now replace bottles. Be patient and understanding, but don’t give him a bottle, even if he cries and throws tantrums.
At the end of the week, your son will be on a healthy road developmentally and “dentally,” too. And you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you helped him enter this new phase of growing up.
